Can You Use Frozen Breastmilk for Breastmilk Jewellery?
One of the most common questions I receive is whether frozen breastmilk can be used to create breastmilk jewellery.
The simple answer is yes!
Many of my customers have milk stored away in their freezer from months or even years ago and are surprised to learn that it can still be used to create a beautiful keepsake.
Does the Age of the Milk Matter?
Not usually.
As long as the milk has been stored safely and hasn't developed mould, I can generally work with it regardless of how old it is. I've created jewellery using breastmilk that has been frozen for 9 years!
If you're unsure whether your milk is suitable, feel free to get in touch and I'll be happy to help.
Why Does Frozen Breastmilk Look Different?
It's completely normal for frozen breastmilk to separate or change colour over time.
Some milk becomes more yellow, cream or even slightly orange in appearance while frozen. This doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it and it can still be preserved and used for your jewellery. I usually find frozen breastmilk lightens slightly when it’s defrosted.
Every sample is unique, just like every breastfeeding journey.
How Much Breastmilk Do I Need?
I recommend sending around 15ml of breastmilk, although I can work with as little as 3ml of breastmilk.
If you only have a tiny freezer stash left, don't panic. It's always worth getting in touch before throwing it away!
A Keepsake from a Precious Chapter
Many mums tell me they've held onto frozen breastmilk for years because they weren't quite ready to let it go.
Breastmilk jewellery offers a beautiful way to transform that final freezer stash into something meaningful that can be treasured forever.
After all, every breastfeeding journey deserves to be remembered, whether it lasted days, months or years.
And if nobody has told you lately, you should be incredibly proud of yourself. Raising and nurturing a little human is one of the most important jobs in the world. This is your reminder that what you've achieved matters.
