What Can Be Included in Keepsake Jewellery?
One of my favourite things about creating keepsake jewellery is that no two pieces are ever the same.
Every family has their own story, which means every keepsake is completely unique. Whilst breastmilk is one of the most popular inclusions I work with, there are actually lots of different ways to personalise your jewellery.
Breastmilk
Breastmilk jewellery is created using your own breastmilk, carefully preserved and incorporated into a keepsake stone.
Whether you fed for days, months or years, breastmilk jewellery is a beautiful way to celebrate your journey and preserve a small piece of that chapter forever.
Hair
Hair can be incorporated into jewellery in a variety of ways.
Some customers choose to include a lock of their baby's first haircut, whilst others include hair from multiple children to create a family keepsake.
Hair can also be used in memorial jewellery for both people and beloved pets.
One thing worth mentioning is that not all hair behaves the same way. Very thick or coarse hair can sometimes be difficult to manipulate into detailed shapes, whilst very pale blonde hair can occasionally be difficult to see within a design. Don't worry though, if I think a particular design may not work well with your hair, I'll always let you know and suggest alternatives.
Often, the most important thing isn't creating a perfect shape, it's preserving a small piece of someone you love.
Cremation Ashes
A very small amount of cremation ashes is needed to create a meaningful memorial piece.
Many families choose ashes jewellery as a way to keep a loved one close, whether that is a parent, grandparent, child, partner or cherished pet.
Umbilical Cord
Umbilical cord jewellery has become increasingly popular in recent years!
Many parents save a small piece of their baby's cord and later decide to transform it into a lasting keepsake alongside breastmilk and even hair.
I really love working with umbilical cord, it’s probably my favourite inclusion. I love the different colours it produces.
Formula Powder
Not every feeding journey includes breastmilk.
For some families, formula feeding was always the plan. For others, it became part of their journey through choice or necessity.
Formula powder can also be incorporated into keepsake jewellery, creating a meaningful reminder of the love, care and countless feeds that helped your little one grow.
Because at the end of the day, it's not about how your baby was fed. It's about the memories you've made together.
Placenta Capsules
If you've had your placenta encapsulated, a small amount of placenta capsule powder can be incorporated into your jewellery.
This creates another unique way of preserving part of your pregnancy and postpartum journey.
Dried Flowers
Flowers from a wedding bouquet, funeral arrangement or other special occasion can be carefully dried and incorporated into your keepsake.
They add beautiful colour whilst holding special memories.
Fabric, Sand and Other Meaningful Items
Over the years I've worked with all sorts of sentimental inclusions.
From tiny pieces of fabric and baby blankets to sand collected from special beaches, keepsake jewellery can often be personalised in ways people never thought possible.
Your Story, Your Keepsake
There is no right or wrong way to create keepsake jewellery.
Some customers choose a simple breastmilk stone, whilst others combine breastmilk, hair, ashes, birthstones and other inclusions into a single piece.
Whatever you choose, the most important thing is the story behind it.
Because at the end of the day, keepsake jewellery isn't really about preserving an inclusion.
It's about preserving a memory.
